The Scorpio 1 period takes Intensity as its central image. According to The Grand Cycle of Life, this period can be likened to the onset of middle age, when the power of an individual beings to fully emerge, to peak at some future point in the fifties or early sixties. In the Scorpio 1 period the ability to take control, to effectively husband and exert one’s powers over the environment, to subdue wayward elements to one’s will are manifested.

Though biological drives may be lessened or eliminated by this time of life, sexual or romantic expression is not necessarily diminished in importance; many even report feeling of a greater intensity that are more measured and directed, and less diffused or unstable.

Scorpio 1′s are demanding personalities, who have few equals in attention to detail and applying their powers of concentration to the task at hand. More than most people, Scorpio 1′s have a charged, polarized personality with two sides–one sunny, one dark. Their sunny side gives them a radiance and a seductive charm that can melt the hardest hearts; their dark side is destructive, and when out of control can inflict serious damage, not only on those around them but on themselves. It is this intensity that makes them unlikely to back down from confrontation, so that they often hang in until the bitter end. It may be difficult for Scorpio 1′s to forgive, but it is almost impossible for them to forget slights, condescension and anything they see as an insult to their intelligence. Still, the main thrust of Scorpio 1 judgments is not destructive per se–quite to the contrary. Scorpio 1′s believe in the positive value of criticism and doubt that a bad situation will get better by itself.
